Meet The Owner With A Lifelong Dream To Serve God Through Educating Children

Owner and director Angie Smith realized in high school that serving children through loving, Christian care and exceptional early learning was her calling in life. Despite participating in an Early Childhood Development program, her path after graduation took Angie in a different direction, into the world of retail and office management, and eventually banking, with only two short stints working in child care while her daughters were young.

In 2002, that all changed when she took a leap of faith, left the corporate world behind, and set out to bring her dream to fruition. Time after time, she was denied funding to build a center but says she never let frustration stand in her way.

“I prayed daily, ‘God if this is your will; you will show me the way.’”

Angie’s prayers were answered in the form of a “financing angel,” but while her first center was being constructed, she still needed to tackle her lack of experience. Endless phone calls finally led her to a pilot program for daycare directors, and after 12 long months, she achieved a Director’s Certificate. That grueling process has been streamlined into a 40-hour course that became and remains a requirement for licensing today. Proud of her pioneering coursework, Angie also studied for and earned her National Administrator Credential from NECPA (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation.) 

When she opened her doors in 2003, Angie was well-equipped to serve as her child care center administrator. Through her diligence and business experience, she steered that facility to NAEYC accreditation after only one year in service. Having dedicated her talents to running high-quality early learning and care programs, Angie brought her skills and faith to Villa Rica in 2015 to open Funfield Learning Cottage. She looks forward to continuing to achieve great things for the community’s children with the gifts that God has provided her.
